A New Year!
It’s a brand new year, with brand new students, brand new things in the classroom, and brand new blog posts! I’m so excited for the new year and can’t wait to connect with so many amazing classes around the world!
Summer was certainly busy but extremely amazing! It started out with my wedding on July 5th and then followed by a honeymoon to Bermuda. Both were absolutely amazing! The weather was beautiful. We got to spend time with family and friends. We couldn’t have asked for anything more!

Upon returning from the honeymoon, it was time to start getting the classroom ready for a new year. Coming back into the room, there was so much to do. There were bulletin boards to get ready, a fresh coat of paint that needed to be added to our green screen, some new desks to arrange, and some IdeaPaint to add to some of our walls and tables. That last part was my favorite! The IdeaPaint turned many of our normal surfaces into dry-erase boards! We can now write on tables, our green wall, and some of our cabinets! We also just got more in so soon all of the desks in both sixth grade classrooms will be painted too! The pictures below show what the classroom looked like before it was ready.
The next pictures show what our classroom looks like now! It’s always a work in progress with incredible student work that will be put up throughout the year.
We have so many great collaborative projects and activities in store this year. It’s going to be amazing to connect with classes around the world and share our learning. Plus, don’t forget, we have a special surprise to unveil this October. If you haven’t voted for the new Math Movie Network logo to help prepare this new surprise, please be sure to click here and make sure you do so. Voting will close on September 15th!
Thanks for stopping by. Make sure to visit often as we share new projects and videos!

What are you looking forward to most this school year?
What’s your favorite place you’ve ever visited?
Dear Mr. Avery,
The room looks so awesome! I wish we had that last year! I miss Dennett, but I love it at Silver Lake. I was so worried about going, but now I know I worried about nothing. So for everyone who is going next year, don’t worry about it. Enjoy elementary, and at the end of the year you can start to think more about middle school. I love my teachers and classes, and I love not having to walk in LINES! I made so many friends, and met so many people! Plus, the dances are way better, (sorry Dennett). My ELA teacher has really taught me how to write really long paragraphs, (thanks Mrs. Jordan). But I’m getting off topic here, anyway, thanks for a great year Mr. Avery and Ms. Girard, the room looks great

Dear Mr. Avery,
Bermuda looks like such a pretty place! I hope you had a great and fantastic honeymoon!
From,
Ayah A.
Dear Ayah,
Bermuda was definitely beautiful. It’s the furthest I’ve ever been away from the United States. I had been to Canada before but that wasn’t too far away!
The weather was perfect and the beaches were so nice. The sand was pink on one of the beaches we went to! It was definitely an amazing trip!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery
Dear Mr. Avery,
I am really looking forward to this year being in your class. I freaked out when I found out that you use technology. I love technology and math. I also love how we can comment as an assignment.
Sincerely,
Tyler P.
Dear Mr. Avery,
Those were great pictures. Where was the picture of you by the tree taken? And were the spiders really that big? My stepsisterHope would scream. Then she’d make me kill it for her.
Sincerely,
Alex M
Dear Mr. Avery
I think that it is cool that you went to Bermuda and went under that huge tree and saw huge spiders .

Owen T.
Dear Mr.Avery,
It seems like you had a great summer! The water in Bermuda looks beautiful! Was it warm? What do you think your favorite part of your honeymoon was? And Congratulations on getting married!
Sincerely Izzy F 😆
Mr. Avery,
Congratulations on your marriage!!
I am happy for you.
I have never been to Bermuda. How is it? I really liked your pictures. That tree was crazy huge. I hope you have a wonderful time with your wife.

Dear Mr Avery and class,
Welcome to the new school year!
My name is Mrs Morris and I am a teacher in Australia. I have enjoyed collaborating with Mr Avery and his students for a number of years now. At the moment I’m not teaching as I had a baby girl, Novalie, five weeks ago.
I still look forward to following your blog. You’re all very lucky to have Mr Avery as your teacher. He’s very talented and I know you will have some amazing learning experiences this year!
Best wishes,
Mrs Morris
Dear Mrs. Morris,
Thank you so much. We’ve been having a lot of fun so far this year learning how to use all of the technology and now learning how to use the blog and comment on it!
Congratulations on your baby girl! Mr. Avery said she is an adorable baby.
We’re really looking forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery’s class 🙂

Dear Ari,
Thank you so much! I always try to make sure that the room is a comfortable place for everyone to learn! I’m hoping to add a few more things to it this year so that we can make it an ever better place to collaborate!
Definitely come visit sometime. If you come on Saturday for the Harvest Festival, you can find me in the dunk tank!
