Dr. Decimal: Removing Decimals from the Divisor
However, we eventually ended up running into some problems that also had decimals in the divisor. We learned that to solve these problems, we had to make our divisor a whole number. In order to do that, we have to move our decimal over one space. If we move our decimal over one space in our divisor, we also have to move our decimal over one space in the dividend to even things out.
Once we’ve made our divisor a whole number, now we’re able to solve the division problem. Having these decimals in the divisor is a problem that has to be taken care of. If seen, they need to be removed. Luckily, we had Dr. Decimal and Nurse Negative from the Avery County Medical Center who put together a public service announcement to remind us about how to deal with those pesky decimals, which can be seen at the top of this post.
Dear Mr. Avery,
I realy like how you made that video on removing the decimal from the divisor. It really helps me when I needed to divide with decimals in the divisor. Thank you Kirstin, Tess and Mr. Avery for making that video on how to divide decimals in the divisor. You did such a great job on the video. I hope you make an other GREAT video like that one again
I will see you soon.

Hi Mr. Avery,
How’s 6th grade? Dividing decimals looks hard. I’m glad I’m not in 6th grade but I will be soon. It looks hard but you make it easy and fun. I haven’t been on the blog in a long time and Doctor Decimal seems cool and encourages kids to like decimals. I wish you were in school today. I wish you a happy day and hopefully you will be in school tomorrow.

I’m glad that you liked the Dr. Decimal and Nurse Negative video. I’m going to visit your blog right now.

Dear Mr. Avery,
I see that you still do movies. You also used some new colors for the globes and used the backgrounds from last year. What have you been doing on the Smartboard this year? Are you going to keep adding to the blog with wonderful new posts and pictures? It is so cool that you have a green wall for the green screen. It was a pain having to iron it every time we used it and fold the whole entire sheet. Are you reading any new books? I remember reading the Swan’s Trumpet. I think it was called that at least. Have a great year with all your new students.
Sincerely,
Ben W.
Dear Mr. Avery,
Great video. I didn’t realize that we were in the middle of an epidemic. Thanks for the info.
