Production on set of our Math Movie Network has kicked into gear. Students have been hard at work preparing for our first video shoot by learning how to add, subtract, and multiply decimals.
We learned that when adding or subtracting decimals, the decimal points always need to line up. When we multiply decimals, the decimal points don’t need to line up.
A few of our very talented news anchors put together a couple videos to share how to add, subtract, and multiply decimals. Pay very close attention to the difference in how we handle decimals in addition and subtraction problems as compared to a multiplication problem.
Excellent job everyone! Tune in as we continue to create videos as part of the Math Movie Network!
*How are adding/subtracting decimals different from multiplying decimals?*
*When might you use addition, subtraction, or multiplication of decimals?*
Dear Kristin,
I thought you did a fabulous job on the math video. You’re a natural.
Keep up the good work.
Mom
Dear Mr. Avery,
The videos are kind of wierd because Phil’s blonde hair made it look like his head was dissolving. Oh, and in the video I was in, it sort of looked like I was a nervous, embarrassed train wreck!
Sincerely the person who now sort of knows how to spell sincerely,
Hannah
Dear Mr. Avery,
I think the videos are really cool. Someday I would like to learn about math and subtracting like the people in the video. It was really wierd because no one really seamed to smile, but it still a good video. 🙂

Emily
Dear Emily,
Thank you for the wonderful comment. We hope to make more videos for the classroom blog soon :). I am also so happy to hear that you enjoyed the video. 🙂
Thanks again,

Dear Alana,
Thanks for the comment and we will be making new videos and we will have bloopers soon, plus I will look at your blog.
Thank you,
Kevin B
Dear Mr. Avery and students,
Your explanation of multiplying and adding decimals is really clear. I am a visual learner, and it helps me so much to see lots of examples when I am learning math. Your visual technique is helping so many students.
I remember being a bit confused about adding fractions. Is that topic coming up soon? I could use a refresher!

Dear Mr. Avery,
I love the new post I think it’s really cool but the only down side is that there is a little green. Also, his head was disappearing a little bit.
Love the post,
Andrew A.
Dear Andrew,
Who’s head are you talking about. Are you talking about the one with the blond hair or the black hair?
Get back to me soon,
Ed S.
My class is very impressed with your maths movies. Well done and great job! We will be visiting your blog again to see what else you’ve been up to and to gain some top tips in solving maths problems. 🙂
