What a year! We had an amazing class with a group of students that worked so well together. We blogged with so many great classes. We received comments from around the world. It was truly a successful year.
It seems like so long ago when we were first introducing ourselves through our news intros. That was the start of many different videos we created throughout the year.
It’s hard to imagine that we did our first major project all the way back in October. Students researched endangered animals. They learned about their habitat, eating habits and adaptations of those animals. They did such an amazing job writing reports and putting together newscasts to share all the information they had learned.
I can’t believe that all that was at the beginning of the year. Now the year has passed and these students will be moving on to fifth grade. Their teachers next year will be very lucky to have such a great group to work with. I was very fortunate to have had an opportunity to have them in my class this year!
Thank you to all our blogging buddies this year. You all left some amazing comments and it was great having an opportunity to connect with you. Thank you to all the families for being so supportive of the blog and always leaving encouraging words. Most importantly, thank you to all the students this year for being such hard workers and making this year such a success.
Enjoy looking back at some pictures from earlier this year. Have a wonderful summer!
*What was your favorite part of fourth grade?*

Deat Mr. Avery,
We are starting back with our new students September 6 and I can not wait to get started. A fresh new group of learners and bloggers! It is always so exciting.
I have a question for you…how did you create your QR codes that you have in your sidebar? I have been trying to do this with my class, but the only ones I seem to be able to do are the pre-determined ones and I just key in the actions and print out the code to use on their site using my webcam? I would love to know how you made yours and what program you use to read them? Can you please help me out?
Much appreciated,
Mrs. Webb-Scheers
The Classroom Connection
Hi Mrs. Webb-Scheers,
I love QR codes. I’m excited to find different ways to implement them in the classroom.
The site I use is called Kaywa, http://qrcode.kaywa.com/. It’s great. It lets you change the size, put in websites, phone numbers, text, etc. You can also change the size of the QR code. When finished, it will give you an embed code.
I hope this helps and I hope we’re able to connect with our new classes in a couple weeks!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery
Hi Mr. Avery,
Thank you so much for your help. I tried it out and have added the QR code to my class blog. Now I just have to borrow my friend’s iphone to see if it worked 🙂
I made the small one using text…but it was too big to embed into my sidebar, so I took a picture of it using the snipping tool and adjusted the deminsions so it would fit properly. I hope it works. Let me know if you have a sec to check it out.
I am really looking forward to blogging again this year with my new students. This will be my second year blogging, so I am hoping to add a few more changes and do student blogs with the kids.
I hope we can collaborate sometime this year. I would love to work with you and your class.
Cheers,
Mrs. Webb-Scheers
Dear Mr. Avery,
I loved having you for a teacher this year it was such a great year! I hope I get you in 6th grade too. I am so exciting to have Ms. Leek next year. It will be so fun to see all my friends again! How is your summer so far? I went to Canobie Lake Park in June and went on all the roller coasters. I went on the new one called Untamed and in the beginning it goes straight up and drops you down and you go in a loop-de-loop. My brother was too afraid to go on some. He went on the Corkscrew and the Dragon Coaster. I also got to see Transformers 3 Dark of the moon. Hope to talk to you soon.
Sincerely,
Ben W.

Hi Mr. Avery,
After your kind visit to our blog earlier this month, I am just now getting to visit yours! Your home on the web looks like a super place for 4th graders to learn and grow. I can see why they are all so sad to leave you and their 4th grade year.
Next year I’d love to have my students connect even more with others outside our community. Your site will be one I’m sure we’ll visit!
Enjoy your summer, whatever it brings,
Your friend to the south,
Mrs. Brooks
Mrs. Brooks,
Thank you for writing in. I really enjoyed visiting your blog. It’s great to see other local classes blogging!
We’d love to connect with you next year whether it’s through blogging, skyping, or some other form. I hope you enjoy your summer!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery
Dear Mr. Avery,
What a terrific year for all of us! It was a pleasure getting to know you and your students. I have to second what Mrs. Morris said…the Avery Bunch and the biographies were such great learning posts!
I will never forget the wonderful birthday video and VoiceThread that all of you put together for my 50th birthday! That is something I will always cherish! Thank you!
I wish everyone a wonderful, relaxing summer and we’ll see you again on the 6th grade blog!
Your friend,
Mrs. Y♥llis
California
Mrs. Yollis,
Thank you for a wonderful year of learning. We truly enjoyed getting to know your class better this year.
You had so many amazing posts this year. Some of my favorites were the giant map ones. I loved how made them into your own Clustrmaps.
Have a wonderful summer. Looking forward to seeing you in the fall!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery
Dear Mr. Avery and Class,
It’s always a bit sad to end a year, especially after one as amazing as the one you experienced this year!
My favorite post was the Avery Bunch math video! I showed it to the teachers and kids at my school.
My second favorite post was the one about your Mystery Skype session with Mrs. Yollis’ class. I learned so much from how you!
Enjoy your summer!
Mrs. Hembree
Mrs. Hembree,
We’re glad we were able to share with you this year! We had so much fun getting to know both you and your blog.
The Avery Bunch was one of our favorite ones to make. We really enjoyed singing the song. It took a while to get down but we got it.
I hope you have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery
Dear Mr Avery,
I loved having you for a teacher this year and I hope I have you in 6th grade too. My favorite thing about fourth grade would probably be the kites. The kites were so much fun. This is probably the last comment I’m going to write on the blog as a fourth grader. See you next year.
Sincerely,
Heston
Heston,
I really enjoyed having you in class this year! Making kites was one of my favorite things this year too. I was so amazed at how well they flew. We might have to do that again in sixth grade!
I hope you have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery
Dear Mr. Avery,
I can’t pick my favorite thing about fourth grade. I wish that I could stay in fourth grade with you forever. Two of my favorite things about fourth grade was the prize drawer and the blog. I am really sad that I am leaving fourth grade but I am glad that I am going to have you in sixth grade. I am excited to have Mrs. Markos next year. I heard that both teachers are really, really good. Are you going to do a blog for sixth grade too? Are you going to be blogging all summer with me? How is your summer so far?
I hope you have a great summer and I hope you have fun in sixth grade!
Sincerely,
N♥T♥L!E S.
Dear Natalie,
You did love that prize drawer! You can’t forget to remind me that I still owe you one more prize at the beginning of next year!
I’m very excited that I’ll get to work with all of you again in sixth grade. Make sure you work hard next year in fifth grade!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery
Dear Mr Avery and class,
I can hardly believe school is out for everyone in the northern hemisphere while we are not even halfway through our school year here in the southern hemisphere.
The work you have done this year has been inspiring and your videos, in particular, have been outstanding!
I have two favourite posts. My first favourite post was the Avery Bunch fraction video you made. That was amazing!
My other favourite post was your biography projects. All the students in 2KM and 2KJ loved watching your interviews and you taught them a lot about historical figures. Thank you!
Have a great summer everyone and we’d love to hear from any of Mr Avery’s students over at the 2KM and 2KJ blog
Best wishes,
Mrs M☀rris
Dear Mrs. Morris,
We really appreciate all of you kind words! We’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from your blog this year. It definitely helped to get ours going.
The Avery Bunch was probably one of my favorite projects of the year this year as well. It was a lot of fun to make!
Thank you for all of your support this year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery
