- March 7th – March 13th – Mrs. Ranney’s Class Blog (California, USA)
- March 14th – March 20th – Mr. Avery’s Classroom Blog (Massachusetts, USA)
- March 28th – April 3rd – 3DD Class Blog (Leopold, Australia)

The concept is four blogging classes come together and learn about one another one week at a time. This alliance will help each class increase learning more about the wonderful world we live in.
This week, enjoy meeting Mr. Avery’s class of fourth graders in Plympton, Massachusetts. We are a group of 8 girls and 7 boys.
Listen to our VoiceThread to learn a little bit more about our class, our school, and our town!
Take a look through our blog and feel free to ask any questions! You may enjoy our video section with our endangered animal projects we did earlier this year or check out our challenge page and see if you can figure out our Weekly Challenge!
We can’t wait to hear from you! Comment on any post or page. We’d love to comment back to you!

Dear Mr.Avery,
I think quad blogging is a great fun. Wasn’t it fun Skyping this morning? What is your favourite thing about quad blogging? My favourite thing about quad blogging is that I get to learn more facts about the world.

Dear Ella,
We don’t have a class pet. I wish we did. We don’t use the SmartBoard for every subject.:(

Dear Mr Avery and class ,
Your post is very interesting. In our spare time we like to do drawing, sports and going shopping. Do you like to do any of these things that we like to do?
From your blogging friends Alina and Olivia (3dd)
Dear Mr Avery and class,
We are from Mrs de Vries’ grade 3 class and we like doing quad blogging.
We think your post is awesome! We have learnt some good facts about Plympton.
We have found some differences:
At your school, you have 235 students and we have 694 students.
In your class you have 7 boys and 8 girls (15). In our class we have 12 boys and 13 girls (25).
Plympton has 2,600 people and Leopold had 8,746 (2006). It’s much bigger now. Well have to find out what it is now.
You have a Smart-board and we have a Promethean interactive board.
We are about 10 minutes from the beach and 88km (53m) SW of Melbourne.
Hope you are having fun yesterday!

Dear Mr. Avery and class,
Hi It’s Kobi and VJ from 3DD.
Kobi-In my spare time I like to play my ipod touch.
Vj-In my spare time I like to play Mechanical Commando on the computer.
What do you enjoy soing after school?
From,
Kobi and VJ in 3DD
Dear Kobi and Vj,
What’s Mechanical Commando? I enjoy reading after school, watching TV, and playing on the computer.
From,
Ariel
Dear Ariel`
Mechanical Commando is a game where you have to fight people, machines and aircraft. You have to fight in a walking robot.
From,
Kobi and Vj,
P.S. I also like playing soccer and so does Kobi
@Natalie, Wow! You’re lucky you have a SmartBoard. The SmartBoard can do many things that the whiteboard can’t but an Elmo can. An Elmo has a projector that can show your hands, pieces of paper, and it can also project the computer screen online, like a SmartBoard can go online. We can’t draw with a Elmo, though.
I will answer your questions. We don’t have any class pets. (I wish we did.) In class we learn spelling, math, grammar, writing, social studies, and science. My favorite subject is spelling, but I also like science. Do you have a class pet? What is your favorite subject?
@Jenna K., Thank you for answering my question. I like baseball better than football because my brother Jonathan plays on the high school baseball team, and he is a good baseball player. Which one do you like better?
@Ben W., Thank you for a very detailed answer. I wish I could try the straight line maker! Do you use the SmartBoard for every subject?
@Ariel D., This is a real coincidence because one of my friends is named Ariel too! What is your favorite game to play with Natalie?
@Mike K., Wow! I can’t believe you can draw with your finger! It’s just like the iPad.
Yours Truly,
Ella from Mrs. Ranney’s class
Dear Ella,
Thanks for answer my question. It stinks you don’t have any class pets. We don’t either. If I had to choose between baseball and football, I would go with baseball. If I had to choose between baseball and soccer I would go with soccer. Do you like soccer? Did you have fun Skyping with Mrs. Watson’s class? We are Skyping with Ms. Watson’s class today.
From,
Jenna
Dear Ella,
It’s Ariel. Could you ask Ariel about being blogging buddies with me. I want to know about her to see what we have in common.
Me and Natalie like to play Zombie tag, soccer tag, and 7up. I am so glad you are my blogging buddy too.
From your blogging buddy,
Ariel D.
Dear Mr. Avery and class,
Hi, my name is Jack. In my spare time I like to play to handball and basketball. What do you like to play in your spare time?
From,
Your new quad blogging buddy Jack
(Mrs. Ranneys class)
Dear Mr. Avery’s Class,
We thought it was interesting how old your town is. It also seemed like the temperatures you get are a little different from ours. We will find out what our record temperatures were and leave another comment.
We also live close to the ocean. Our school is about 5 minutes from the ocean.
We live half way between Boston and New York. So, we have a mix of Red Sox and Yankees fans. We just took a vote and 9 students like the Yankees (“Boo!” says Mr. Salsich) and 7 like the Red Sox, and 5 don’t care either way. In the school Mr. Salsich thinks about 60% like the Red Sox and 40% like the Yankees. We aren’t sure he is right, so maybe we will do a survey.
Either way, we are right on the edge of the rivalry!
From,
Mr. Salsich’s Class
Dear Mr.Salsich and class,
I’m so happy I’m finally talking to you. I hope we can Skype with you one day. Your class is the class that is closest to us from everyone we blog with.
From,
Ariel D.
Dear Margot,
Cops and Robbers is like tag. First, you can get how many people want to play. Then you decide which people are cops and then do the same for the robbers. The cops have to touch you then the robber go to jail. The robbers who didn’t get touched, can run and tag a robber who is in jail. It is really fun! You get sweaty a lot!
In our gym class, we go outside in the summer. We played survivor. The blue team won! I was on the green team.
We have a smartboard too! We go on our class blog and look at the new comments we have. We have a chart, we are at 805 comments! Our goal is to get a thousand comments, by the end of the year!
Sincerely,
Natalie S. &heats;
Hello Mr Avery and class! I am so excited to hear your beautiful voices. I am from Australia and find your accents charming.
Hi Mr Avery and class,
Hi it’s me Millie.
We did quad blogging with 4 classes around the world.
It would be nice to hear from you soon.
Millie
Dear Millie,
I think it is cool that you blogged with 4 classes. We haven’t Skyped with any other classes yet but we are soon. We did skype with Kevin Lemanowicz, a meteorologist though.

Dear Mr Avery and class,
Hi, I am Skye from 3DD. I love blogging. I love Quad blogging!
Thank you for all the information. I will tell you a bit about us. We have 25 people in our grade. We have an interactive whiteboard. We read Tashi. He is a very clever and brave person who always helps people.
What is your favourite part about Quad blogging?
From Skye (In 3DD)
Dear Skype,
My name is Natalie from Mr. Avery’s class. I like Quad blogging because you get to make new blogging buddies!
I have never read Tashi before. Is it good?
I have a few questions:
Since you are in Australia, in the summer what is the average temperature?
Have you ever seen snow?
Do you know where Plympton is?
What do you do in school?
What is your favorite subject?
Sincerely,
Natalie ♥
Dear Mr Avery,
I really liked your post because of the voice recordings.
You have 200 students. We have over 700 students.
We have 13 boys and 12 girls in our grade.
We stay at school for 5 hours. How many hours do you stay for?
Your blogging buddy Riley
We have 15 kids in our class. We have about 7 hours of school ( Not including the bus!) ♔ .
Sincerely,
Ashley ♥
Dear Mr. Avery’s class,
I am so excited to learn about what all of you like to do. What are some of your favorite activities to do inside or outside your classroom? What subjects in school do you like the most?
Your Friend,
Grace:)*
Dear Grace,
My favorite subject in school is science.
What is yours?
From,
Amanda
Dear Mr. Avery,
Hi! I am Margot and my teacher is Mr. Salsich. He teaches third grade He also has a blog. Many things (including blogs) here are different. You have so many comments on all your posts you get on your blog! We only get about 20 to 25 comments on each post on Mr. Salsich’s blog. I love your blog and the header image at the top. Where I live, we can walk to the Atlanltic Ocean at some houses. In most places, people live near a pond, river, or the ocean.
We have a few people in our town that own 3 or 2 horses but most people here that have farms have chickens, dogs, and goats. Our school only teaches grades preschool through fourth grade, but we have about 515 students! We have 5 or 4 classes in each grade with about 20 students each. Instead of July being our warmest month it is August but our coldest months are December and January.
In our gym class, we are doing basketball. We do not even know what cops and robbers is! We also have a smartboard in our class and we use it for all our subjects and we also can go on the class blog with it.
From,
Margot* 🙂

Hi, my name is Ariel. I am so excited to be blogging buddies with you.
I love cops and robbers. It is so fun.
Regards.
Ariel 🙂 (in Mrs. Ranney’s class)
Dear Ariel,
Hi, my name is also Ariel. I’m in Mr. Avery’s class. I wanted to ask you a few questions,
How many students does your classroom have?
What are some popular games you play?
What is your favorite author and book tittle ?
And what are your favorite hobbies?
P.S We have the same name. And I want to know everything about you so I can see what we have in common.
Your new friend,
Ariel:) (in Mr. Avery’s class)
Dear Jamie,
Hi its Amanda and i’m going to tell you how to play Zombie Tag. We have a playground that has slides on either side and a bridge in the middle. You need one of those to play or a big box drawn with chalk. You start on the bridge while the person who is the zombie goes to a tree. Once everyone is on the bridge you say 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ZOMBIE! Then, you run to a different spot. The zombie can’t get on the playground so he tries to tag you. It is a really fun game!
From,
Amanda
Dear Justin,
It’s Rebecca. I want to tell you about Cops and Robbers. Cops and robbers is a game where you are a robber or cop. If you are a cop you have to get the robbers and take them to the jail. If you are a robber you run a way from the cops. When all of the robbers are caught you play again. The people that are robbers are cops and the cops are now robbers. There can be any amount of players (just more than one player). Have fun playing cops and robbers.
Your blogging buddy,
Rebecca A. &hearts
Dear Jamie,
I love how descriptive you are. It’s amazing. I can’t write words as descriptive as you can. You’re amazing.
Best regards,
Ariel
Dear Ella,
A SmartBoard is a board that is similar to a white board. It has markers that if you pick one up you can draw with anything you have including your finger.
From,
Mike ★
Dear Mr. Avery and Class,
Your VoiceThread was amazing! I especially liked the part where you talked about the sports teams you root for in Massachusetts. I enjoyed it for two reasons. One is that I finally got to hear Natalie’s voice! The other reason is that I got to learn more about the teams you like. Even though I live in L.A., which is Dodgers town, I root for the New York Yankees. The Yankees are rivals with the Red Sox…but we can still get along, it’s only sports.
Another part of the presentation I liked is that I got to learn more about your community. It seems like you live in a rural area because you mentioned that many people in your community have horse farms and grow cranberries. Is it a rural area?
One of the striking differences between your community and ours is the climate. You seem to have a much colder winter and much milder summer than we do.
@Natalie, thank you for your kind words. I think you have very descriptive comments. You sounded excellent in the VoiceThread. I can’t wait to have more conversations together!
I have a question to the class: what can you do with a SmartBoard that you cannot do with a regular board? How do you use it?
Yours Truly,
Ella from Mrs. Ranney’s class
Dear Ella,
It’s Natalie! You can do a lot of things, I will tell you. First, you can go on the internet. On the SmartBoard you can write on it with different colors. It is so much fun! I will explain later.
Your blogging buddy,
Natalie S.
Dear Ella,
It’s Natalie! We love our SmartBoard. The SmartBoard can do many amazing things. First, you can draw on it. You can plug the SmartBoard in your computer. You can go on the internet. If you go on our blog, then it appears on the SmartBoard. Isn’t that cool?
I have a few questions for you Ella:
Do you have any class pets?
What do you do in class?
What is your favorite subject?
Sincerely,
Natalie S.
Mr. Avery’s class
Dear Ella,
A SmartBoard can do a lot of stuff. If you were answering a question you can go up to the smart board and touch the answer. On a white board, you can’t do that.
I have a question for you. Do you like baseball or football better?
From,
Jenna
Dear Ella,
Thank you for writing on our blog. I will try to answer your question.
You can do a lot of things on the SmartBoard, like project the internet on it and touch the screen to make the mouse move around. We can also use pens that come with it to draw things on it, for the colors that we don’t have, we right click and it shows all of the colors, hilighters, and a straight line maker.
From,
Ben W.
Mr. Avery’s class
Dear Ella,
I’m Natalie’s friend. I want to answer some of your questions. Well, on a SmartBoard you have a projector and it shines on the SmartBoard. Now when you touch it, it will be like your using the computer but it’s bigger.
Your new blogging buddy,
Ariel:)
Dear Mr Avery and class,
I am very excited to do quad blogging with you.
Your video was great and interesting.
I have a connection about the horses. There are lots of horses and farm animals at the animal farm in Leopold.
There are only 3 farms in Leopold.
From Brooke in 3DD.
Dear Brooke,
Thank you for the great comment. What is your favorite book? I am in the middle of This Totally Bites ;). I just started it and I say you should read it. What is your favorite subject?
Do you know what zombie tag is? If you don`t how you play, you get on a high surface and two zombies try to tag you but they are on the ground. If you get tagged, you are it.

Dear Mr. Avery,
The slide show was thrilling! I learned that a Bruin is a type of bear. That was an outstanding fact to pass on.
One of the local college teams here is the UCLA Bruins, and you have the Boston Bruins there. Did you know that the Sacramento Kings might move to Anaheim, and Los Angeles might get a football team? I hope the Jaguars move to Los Angeles.
Cheers,
Aidan[Mrs. Ranney’s class]
Dear Aidan,
I hope the Sacramento Kings move to LA. Then they would be the LA Kings. I just heard about LA maybe getting a football team. 🙂
Sincerely,
Marshall ★
@Marshall
It would be the Anaheim Kings (because they are moving to Anaheim). Also, the Ducks and the Angels play there. Did you know that the New England Patriots used to play in Boston?
Cheers,
Aidan [Mrs. Ranney’s Class]
Dear Aidan,
My name is Ariel. Thank you for the comment on the slide show. I can see by your writing that you’re into sports. Am I right? The Boston Bruins are awesome. We also have the New England Patriots as our football team and the Boston Red Sox as our baseball team.
Your new blogging buddy,
Ariel:)
Hi Ariel,
I love sports. My favorite teams are the New York Yankees, New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
What are your favorite teams? Do you follow sports?
Cheers,
Aidan
Dear Aidan,
My favorite sports teams are New England Patriots and th Boston Bruins. Yes I do follow sports. My dad loves to watch the Patriots their our football team.:)
Do you follow up sports?
Your new blogging buddy ,
Ariel
Hi Ariel,
I do follow sports. We have about 15 sport teams in our state. The state of California has the most sport teams in the whole country.
What sports do you play?
All the best,
Aidan
Dear Aidan,
I play soccer, basketball, and football in my yard. What sports do you play?
What are your favorite sports? You don’t even have to play them.
From your blogging buddy,
Ariel 🙂
Dear Aidan,
That would be cool if Los Angeles got a football team! Do you like the Patriots?
Ben S.
Hi Ben,
I do not like the Patriots, but I used to. I do not think they can make it to the Superbowl, but we will see. Many of their best players are getting old like Tom Brady.
What other teams do you like?
Cheers,
Aidan
Dear Aiden,
I think it will be really cool if Los Angeles got a football team! Did you know that our football team the Patriot’s went to the playoffs but they lost :(.
Your blogging buddy,
Heston
@Heston
I agree a football team would be amazing.
I watched the Patriot’s game and it was very exciting. I cheered for the Jets. What other teams do you like?
I have a Hartford Whalers t-shirt. Now the Whalers moved and changed their name to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Cheers,
Aidan [Mrs. Ranney’s Class]
Dear Aiden,
I am going to answer your question now. I like the New Orleans Saints and the Steelers as well as the Patriots.
Your freind,
Heston
Dear Aidan,
Thanks for writing on our blog. I think a Bruin is a cool type of bear. Good luck on having the Jaguars move to Los Angeles.
From,
Jenna
Hi Jenna,
I have heard rumors that other teams may move to Los Angeles. One team is the Oakland Raiders. The Raider used to be located in Los Angeles. Another team is the San Diego Chargers. Both teams would give Los Angeles a football team. We really need a football team because we do not have one.
Do you like sports? What is your favorite sport?
All the best,
Aidan
Dear Mr Avery and class,
You guys are very good at making videos. 🙂
I love your post. It is cool!

Dear Mr. Avery and Class,
Thank you for answering all of my questions! It sounds like after school, most people at my school have similar hobbies. Thanks again for answering my questions!
@Ashley, I’m glad you answered my questions! We also sometimes have recess and lunch inside, but only when it is raining and it doesn’t rain that often in California. Does it rain a lot in Massachusetts? Do you play any sports?
@Natalie, I agree Ella is a great blogger! I did know that Bruins are bears because we have a college here in California that is the UCLA Bruins. Have you ever heard of them? I know the Boston Celtics but I don’t like them very much. In LA, people root for the Los Angeles Lakers. What is the baseball team that you root for? What football team do you like?
@Amanda, I do not know how to play Zombie Tag. Can you explain it for me? At recess, I like to play handball. Do you know what handball is? After school, I enjoy reading, playing softball, and playing with my dog, Hopscotch. I also love being your blogging buddy!
Best Regards,
Jamie from Mrs. Ranney’s Class 🙂
Dear Jamie,
Now that you mention it, rain comes here a lot. It rained yesterday. It rained while we were outside at recess. We had to go in. Also, in spring I will be doing Softball. I also do Girl Scouts.
Here is some about me. I am 9 Years old. I have an adorable kitten named Minky. I love Pokemon! It would be cool if we were blogging buddies like Ella and Natile :). Would you like to be?

I think that is cool the town you’re living is the smallest town. I think that the town you’re living is bigger than our town. Because the town that you’re living in has 2600 people and the town that we’re living in has 800 people. What kind of people do you have in the town that you’re living? We have Canadian and Chinese people. I’m a Canadian, but my family is Chinese people.

You guys probably have tons of kids at your school altogether. How many classes are in your school we have 3 classes?
Your new friend Silkence in Mrs. W’s class.
Dear Silkence,
I am going to answer some of your questions. We have about 230 kids in our school. I can’t believe you only have 45 kids. We have kindergarten through sixth grade.

Your class and ours almost have the same number of people. Just yours has 15 and ours have 17, which means we have 2 more. I can see you have 8 girls and 7 boys. We have 12 girls and 5 boys, lot of girls huh?
From
Fay in Mrs. W’s class
Dear fay,
I wish our class had more people because there would probably be more girls. I would be happy with at least 3 more people. I wish most of them would be girls. Your class does have a lot of girls. I wish our class had more girls.

I thought that it was very interesting that Plypmton was found in 1707. Sointula was found in 1901. Plympton was found about 200 years before Sointula was found. How old would Plympton be now?
I do not know how old Sointula is all have to look that up today.

I love the VoiceThread – what a great way to tell people something about where you live. I came to you from Mrs. Watson’s class’ blog – it sounds as if you are learning a lot from each other whilst you are quad blogging.
We are also very near to the Atlantic Ocean but on the other side!
Ms Breyley, Burravoe School, Shetland Islands
Dear Pearl,
I noticed some differences that we have. You spell favorite different than we do. I have read the book Matilda. I have also seen the movie. Have you seen the movie?
Sincerely,
Natalie
Dear Jamie,
My favorite subjects in school are art, gym (P.E.) and science. What is your favorite subject in school? I love school! What about you? Please write back.
Your blogging buddy,
Rebecca A.
Hi Mr. Avery’s class,
I am from your buddy class on student challenge. We are from Comox, BC. We think that it is funny that you are Skyping with Mrs. Watson’s class because we are part of flat Canada and she sent us Flat Stanleys. I have a connection to your slideshow about Roald Dahl because I did a diorama last year about the Twits. My favourite Roald Dahl book to read is Matilda. Did anyone in your class read that one yet?
Some of the kids in your class might want to check our blog at http://climbhigh.edublogs.org.
From,
Pearl T
Dear Pearl,
Yes. People in our class have read Matilda. I heard it’s a great book! I’m going to read it today!
Sincerely,
Alexus
Dear Pearl,
We did not Skype with Mrs. Watson’s class yet. What is The Twits? I have never read Matilda. I know that someone in the class read it, I just do not know who.
From,
Trey. W
Dear Pearl T,
Thank you for writing on our blog. My favorite Roald Dahl book is Matilda too.
From,
Mike 🙂
Dear Mrs. Ranney and class,
I think that the VoiceThread turned out great! I noticed that you are three hours behind so Mr. Avery had to put this post on Sunday. I did the part where I told you about some of our sports teams. We have mascots for different sports. We have a leprechaun for the Celtics (basketball). We have a mascot for the hockey team. They are called the Boston Buins. Did you know that Bruins are bears?
I enjoyed being blogging buddies with you. I love your blog. I can’t wait to start conversations with your class and our other blogging buddies! I had blogging conversations with Ella. She writes really descriptive comments.
Sincerely,
Natalie S. ♥
Mr. Avery’s class
Dear Mr. Avery and Class,
Hello, my name is Jamie from Mrs. Ranney’s class in California. I thought that all of the facts you told in the VoiceThread were very intriguing. I found it particularly enthralling that you like to play football because at my school we play games like softball and dummy kickball.
I have a some questions:
During recess and lunch, do you play in the gym or outside?
Do you have P.E. inside or outside?
How many times a week do you have P.E.?
What games are popular at recess and lunch?
What subjects do you like?
What are your after school hobbies?
Do you live near Wellesley?
Warmly,
Jamie from Mrs. Ranney’s class
Dear Jamie,
Thank you for all of your wonderful questions. Hopefully we can answer a few for you.
For recess, we play both in the gym and outside. If it’s nice out, we go outside. If it’s snowing, raining, or too cold, we stay inside and either play in the classroom or the gym. We never get to play any games in lunch.
For P.E. (we call it gym), we are usually inside except for in the spring. As it gets nicer out, we start to go outside and play games like soccer, football, or do track and field. We only have P.E. once a week, on Fridays.
During recess, a lot of us like to play sports like soccer, football, and basketball. Some like to play either Zombie Tag or Cops and Robbers. Others like to jump rope, use hula hoops, play on the swings and playground, or just run around.
There are a lot of different choices for favorite subjects. Students will write to you to let you know what their favorite subjects are. We are writing this together as a class right now and there are too many different choices.
There are many different after school hobbies as well. Some like to dance, some play sports, some play musical instruments, some do karate for self defense, riding bikes or scooters, play video games, read, and draw.
We do live near Wellesley. We live about forty-five minutes away.
We have a talent show coming up. Lots of us are performing in it. Do you have any special talents?
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery’s class 🙂
Dear Jamie,
We do not play games at lunch. All we do is eat. It would be fun to play games though.
Ben S.
Dear Jamie,
I am here to answer some of your questions. We do not play at lunch sadly. 🙁 I love to play zombie tag. If you check on the newest post on your blog I wrote how to play it. On nice days we play outside. On other days we play in the gym or classroom. We have P.E. outside in late spring or in the begging of summer. We also go inside. We have P.E. on Fridays. Like I said, we play zombie tag at recess. Others play soccer or football. Some also do other stuff like basketball. I like most subjects except for writing. But I love to blog! After school I have to go to a day care, my parents work. At day care I play my DS. Yes we live near Wellesley.
Your blogging buddy,
Ashley:)
Dear Jamie,
Hi, it’s Jenna and I am going to answer some of your questions. My favorite subject is math or science. Some popular games at recess are soccer and football. My favorite is soccer. Some of my after school hobbies are playing with my animals or doing homework.
I have some questions for you, How many times a week do you have P.E./gym? What is your favorite subject? Do you like to play soccer? What is your favorite game at recess? What kind of games do you play at lunch? We are not allowed to play games at lunch.
Your quad blogging buddy,
Jenna
Dear Jamie,
Two of my favorite things to do are soccer and after school karate. What things do you do after school?
Sincerely,
Colin
Dear Jamie,
Do you know how to play Zombie Tag? If you do know how, do you like to play it? What is your favorite game to play at recess? What are your after school hobbies ? It is very fun being one of your blogging buddies.
From,
Amanda
Dear Jamie,
I want to answer to some of your questions, We do not play anything at lunch. But we do play other games like cops and robbers, zombie tag, soccer, football, softball, baseball, and hide and seek.
In P.E we mostly have it inside but if it’s nice out we have it outside. We have P.E on Friday and we have it once a week.
My favorite subjects are math and writing.
My after school hobbies are to read and watch TV. What is your favorite subject and your after school hobbies?
Your blogging buddy,
Ariel
Dear Jamie,
Do you or any of your classmates have after school soccer practice or soccer games? Also, do any of your classmates do after school karate and what kind of karate because my style is kempo. Kempo is one of the first original kinds of karate.
Your blogging buddy,
Colin
Dear Jamie,
Some after school hobbies I have are playing video games. I play a lot of video games. I’ll name some for you! The one i play a lot is madden 11! It is a football game. I also play Batman: Arckham Asylum. You are Batman and in an asylum.
Your friend,
Heston
Dear Mr. Avery and Class,
I enjoyed tremendously your slide show and VoiceThread! I know that my students will notice many similarities and differences between our classes, schools, towns, and states!
Two similarities that I noticed right away are that we both are located close to an urban area and that we both are located close to an ocean. Of course, the differences are that your urban area is Boston and ours in Los Angeles, and your ocean is the Atlantic and ours the Pacific.
I look forward to great conversations throughout our commenting this week!
Regards,
Mrs. Ranney
in California
Dear Mrs. Ranney,
We love Boston. There are so many different things to do there. One thing some of us do is go to the North End, where they have a lot of Italian restaurants. Another place some of us enjoy going to is Fanieul Hall. There are lots of stores, restaurants, and street performers there. Boston also has the New England Aquarium, which many of us love. There are a lot of museums like the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Science. We also enjoy going to the TD Garden (formerly the Boston Garden) and Fenway Park.
What are some of the places that your students enjoy going to in Los Angeles? What type of restaurants do you mostly have out there?
We look forward to hearing from you this week.
Mr. Avery’s class
Dear Mr. Avery and Class,
Thank you so much for your prompt response! I have noticed many conversations taking place here in your comment section. Exciting!
I have never visited Boston, but it is definitely on my list of “Places I Hope to Visit Someday Soon” list! Because I was a 5th grade teacher for many years, I have a great interest in the historical events that took place in and around Boston. I hope to see the Boston Tea Party ship, for example!
I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles, and my parents often took my sister and me into the city. There are wonderful museums like the California Science Center and the Museum of Natural History in an area called Exposition Park. We also have many wonderful concert venues like Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Dorothy Chandler Music Center. One of my all time favorite places in Los Angeles is the historic street called Olvera Street. It is where Los Angeles first began. There you can find Mexican restaurants with tantalizing, authentic Mexican food and many colorful shops.
Los Angeles has no shortage of restaurants! Adventurous diners can find anything from Peruvian to Ethiopian food!
I know my class will have more places to visit to share with you and to ask about!
Until next time,
Mrs. Ranney
