The T.S. Kennedy has set sail for its journey home. All of the cadets of Massachusetts Maritime will attempt to get their land legs back on February 20th as they step foot on campus for the first time since January 9th. I’m sure all will be happy to see friends and family again but had some great adventures on their trip!
Before the T.S. Kennedy began its voyage home, they stopped in San Juan, Puerto Rico. From there, Mr. Tracy sent us one last batch of postcards. This time he shared some information about the purpose of the ship, the cadets, and a little bit of information about Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States located in the northeastern part of the Caribbean Sea. Puerto Rico was actually a landing place for Christopher Columbus on his second journey in 1493. Its history also includes another famous explorer, Ponce de Leon, who was actually the first governor of the island. You may be familiar with him and his unsuccessful quest to find “Fountain of Youth.” Today, Puerto Rico continues to be a landing place for many, as tourism is an important component to the economy. It is a stop for many cruise ships and of course, the T.S. Kennedy!
Our earlier Prezi has been updated to now include all of the postcards we’ve received from Mr. Tracy. You can navigate your way through and learn all about the T.S. Kennedy and its travels.
*What was your favorite item you received from Mr. Tracy?*
*What did you learn from the postcards?*
*Have you ever traveled somewhere far away?*
Dear Mr. Avery,
I’m so glad that your class followed the voyage of the T.S. Kennedy. I know it makes the cadets happy to know people back home are interested in their travels and take time to communicate with them.
Uncle Frank
Mr. Avery & class,
How nice of Mr. Tracy to correspond with all your students.
Maybe there will be a future cadet in your class.

Dear Mr. Avery,
I have finally picked my favorite thing Mr. Tracy gave us. It would have to be the coins. It is so nice of him to do this for us. Have a nice day!:)

Hey,
This is pretty cool! The pictures of the ship are awesome, especially in the bright blue waters. It’s great that you guys get to keep in contact with someone on board.
Alexandra
Dear Alexandra,
Every one in our class got a postcard. Mr. Tracy took the time to do it. I think Mr. Avery said that they are all back home so the trip was over I think. I got a postcard of the ships propeller and the ship.

Ariel
Dear Mr. Avery,
My favorite item was the postcards and the Burger King menu even though I could not read it. It was very thoughtful and very creative.
From,
Ariel:)
Dear Ariel,
I thought it was very thoughtful as well. I just thought Mr. Tracy was going to send us postcards but when I received the package from him and opened it up, there was quite a surprise! I saw the coins and place mats in there. I knew you’d all love them!
Sincerely,
Mr. Avery
Dear Ariel,
I agree. I can’t read the Burger King menu either. I showed it to my dad. He could read it a little because he can read Portuguese because he was born in Cape Verde. They speak Portuguese there. His dad says he speaks Portuguese like a three year old. He left Cape Verde at three years old. See you on Monday!
Sincerely
Natalie S. 🙂
Dear Mr. Avery,
I think it is so cool that Mr. Tracy is sending us stuff from around the world. I love the postcards. With all those amazing pictures, it’s hard to pick a favorite. Have a nice vacation! 🙂

Amanda,
I agree. It’d be very tough to pick a favorite. It was so nice of him to send us those postcards and other great items. I know he took a lot of time while in some beautiful places to write those. I just hope he got to sit on the beach and write it!
Your teacher,
Mr. Avery
Dear Mr. Avery,
My favorite item I received from Mr. Tracy has to be the Barbados coin. I never got a Barbados coin before. That was very nice of Mr. Tracy to give us cool things from different places. I love getting things from places I haven’t been before. Do you know how he got fifteen Barbados coins and fifteen Mexican pesos?
Sincerely,
Natalie S.
Dear Natalie,
Believe it or not, I had never seen a coin from Barbados before either! I thought they were very cool. My favorite thing we received from Mr. Tracy was the place mats from Burger King. I had fun trying to figure out what all the Spanish words were. I figured some out but not all!
I hope you’re enjoying your vacation!
