2013 Edublog Award Nominations

Nov 30, 2013 | 1 comment

Wow! It’s hard to believe that it is already that time of year again, time for the Edublog Awards! Each year the Edublog Awards highlight the best of technology in education, including class blogs, individual blogs, student blogs, web tools, mobile apps, and many more! They open up to nominations which are done on different blogs. Then, once nominations are over, they begin their voting process. This culminates in an online ceremony announcing the winners of each category!

In the past couple of years, we’ve been nominated for a few different categories. We’ve been nominated for Best Class Blog, Best Educational Wiki, and Best Use of Media/Visual. Last year we even came in third in the Media/Visual category, beating out Khan Academy!

There are so many incredible blogs and sites out there that it’s hard to choose just one for each of the categories. However, we had to narrow it down so here is our list of nominations for this year’s Edublog Awards!

Best Individual Blog – Kleinspiration
Erin Klein is clearly doing an incredible job of sharing on her blog since she’s now been asked to start posting for Scholastic as well! Her mixture of lesson ideas, use of technology, and classroom design keeps the reader coming back for more!
Best New Blog – Redefining My Role: Teacher as Student
Jonah Salsich’s journey into his own blog has been long overdue with his incredible writing skills and wealth of knowledge. The title of this blog is also one of my personal favorites as it’s something that all teachers should be!
Best Class Blog – 4KJ @ Leopold Primary School
Although strange to not see it as 4KM & 4KJ, this blog sharing the learning of Kelly Jordan’s class in Australia is one of our personal favorites! We love seeing what our friends across the world are doing. No matter how far away we are, we always feel like they’re a neighboring class to us!

Best Library/Librarian Blog – Bell Bulldog Readers
We LOVE Mrs. Hembree’s and her students’ book trailers! It’s so great to have something to get us excited about new books. Her trailers and her blog definitely does just that!
Best Free Web Tool – LearnZillion
LearnZillion is an incredible free resource sharing Common Core aligned math and ELA videos made by teachers. Whether in the United States or not, any educator will find great use for this website!

Lifetime Achievement – Cybraryman – Jerry Blumengarten
I’m not sure that there is one person that resonates with more people than Jerry. His list of resources is unbelievable! No matter what is needed, he has a page for it! The way that he’ll Skype into classrooms to read or show up at Edcamps across the country proves his dedication to education. I can’t think of anyone who is more deserving of this award!

Now it’s your turn! Go nominate your favorite blogs and websites for the Edublog Awards. We’ll let you know as soon as voting begins so that if we’re nominated for any categories, you can hopefully vote for us!
